Kamil Gacek is a PhD candidate in Economics and Finance who holds a Master’s in Applied Mathematics and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Finance. His research centers on the application of input-output models to analyze the impacts of natural disasters, particularly droughts, on the Polish economy. As a research assistant in the POLPAN grant project, his responsibilities include, among others, reviewing consistency in variables and labels, updating documentation for POLPAN 2018–2023, and co-authoring articles. He has been awarded University Mini-Grants for Research Projects Conducted by PhD Students (2023/2024) and two scholarships for the best PhD students (2024/25). Kamil is also a member of the International Input-Output Association and the Polish Economic Society, and he serves on the discipline council for Economics and Finance at AGH University of Krakow.
Research interests: environmental economics, mathematical modeling, and simulations, with a particular emphasis on analyzing the consequences of natural disasters — especially drought — on the Polish economy and developing data – driven strategies for effective drought risk management.
